Google Serves Souped-Up Fashion at Boutiques.com

Boutiques.com is a very smart site, but not only in the fashion sense.  As you would expect from Google, Boutiques.com is a souped-up shopping engine, but with a wealth of style and taste.

Here's the basic recipe:

  1. Start with some nice, fresh produce from the Google garden of search algorithms.
  2. Mix in a generous helping of curated content from a team of "stylemaker" designers, celebrities and bloggers.
  3. Add some online retailers and season to taste with your own preferences.
  4. Finally, sprinkle some social networking over the top and serve.

This site will feed a virtual army of hungry fashionistas and wannabes.

Before I knew it, I had spent hours in there and had even created my own boutique.  So now that Boutiques.com knows all about my loves and hates regarding fashion, (no likes and dislikes here) it can make intelligent recommendations based upon my preferences.

Thistle_and_Clover at Boutiques.com After baring my soul to their STYLYZER™, it determined that my taste is basically Casual Chic and gave me a list of boutiques that I might like. One that really caught my eye is called Thistle_and_Clover. (It's really "Thistle & Clover," but databases have a hard time with ampersands.) But anyway, how did they know I'd like that store?

At this time, Boutiques.com covers women's products in the shoe, clothing, handbag, and accessory categories, and is limited to the United States. However, there are plans in the works to add other categories in the near future, including Men's Fashion. Their iPad app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes store.

Google is currently inviting online retailers in the Women's Fashion category to sign up to be listed on the site.  As with other shopping engines, Google does not purchase the products that are listed, but rather, charges "most merchants" to participate.

By the way, I just received my first email from Boutiques.com. Here's what it says:

Check out these new items that we think you'd like.

It had a little dkny from Macy's, a little Ralph Lauren from Dillard's, and a nice Michael Kors mohair and wool-blend sweater dress from NET-A-PORTER.COM. (Although for $1,295 I'd rather buy a greenhouse.) But, yes. All-in-all, I like this a lot.
