In "A Practical Guide to Marketing Your Website", online retail expert Roger Willcocks, owner of UK-based agency, Screen Pages shares this simple formula for estimating the amount of traffic necessary to reach your sales goal:
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: n/a
Here's How:
- Start with the level of annual sales you wish to achieve. (e.g. 200,000)
- Divide that by your average order value (e.g. 50.00) to determine the number of orders over the course of the year (which at that rate would be 4,000 or about 10 per day).
- Extrapolate the number of visitors needed to achieve this level of sales. Assuming a 2% conversion rate, you'll need 500 visitors per day to achieve a sales goal of 200,000.
